Citizens' rights
The man who expects comfort in this life must be born deaf, dumb & blind -- Turkish proverb. All citizens if born as stated above there would be no need for any civic amenities. But very few are so. The rest of the people can hear, talk & see & hence this write-up. The city life is becoming hazardous. The civic amenities are not adequate and in some cases are conspicuous by absence.
Transport system: a few years back a good transport system was seen in the streets connecting almost all the corners of the city. Buses like Premium, Nirapad & Volvo along with other buses used to serve to the satisfaction of the commuters. But to our utter surprise Premium & Nirapad buses discontinued & the last blow for the people came from withdrawal of Volvo buses to Uttara point. Solution: More & more comfortable buses have to be put into service. The authorities should do it on a priority basis to contain the present intolerable sufferings of the people.
Traffic jam: Yes, it can be solved. The solution is more & more roads, flyovers, overbridges, elevated expressway, keeping roadside & footpath free from encroaching traders. Since small traders earn their bread from this business, they should be allowed to do so in other suitable places.
Safe drinking water: Citizens' right in this regard is not properly looked after. Inadequate supply of water, which also contains bacteria, causes water borne diseases. The solution we all know is to replace old pipelines having holes, and regular supply of safe drinking water.
Roads, lane, by lanes, footpath: One has to see to believe the present condition of all these in the city. The solution is there, that is, the City Corporation & related government agencies should immediately resume repair works. Citizen's right here is found very much neglected.
Adulteration: This is another menace for the citizens, which exposes them to serious health hazards. Only solution is constant inspection to identify the violators and punish them.
Rain and sun: The Farmgate area can be cited along with many other places where people in hundreds are found in the line waiting for buses and other transports for hours under the sun. Construction of sheds for waiting commuters is the solution here.
Safety and security: We cannot say all good words about it. Our law enforcing agencies can do it. Sincere efforts can lead to significant achievements.
