Breaking news
This refers to the letter by Mr Asaddar Ali, FCA of Metropolitan University with reference to Bangabandhu murder case court verdict, under the caption: "Breaking News" as published at The Daily Star on December 02, 2009.
Mr. Ali may note that English is a living language. It's no more limited to Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, 7th edition. In modern news reporting , particularly in reference to electronic media, breaking news is no more confined to bad news only. In modern parlance, breaking news means "interrupting the existing news-report which is being telecast", to show the latest, eagerly awaited, more important, and sensational developments. Here, breaking means interrupting forcefully.
