RU students demand certificates under engineering faculty

Several hundred students of five departments under science faculty of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday demanded certificates under newly formed engineering faculty. The university authorities launched “Faculty of Engineering” having applied physics and electronic engineering, applied chemistry and chemical technology, computer science and engineering, information and communication engineering, and materials science and technology departments under it from 2009-10 academic session. Students of the departments under 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09 academic sessions formed a human a chain in front of the university central library at around 12:30pm followed by a silent procession on campus to press home their demand. Later at a rally, they alleged that the university authorities are trying to deprive the students of the departments of their due facilities. They urged the authorities to issue certificates under the new faculty for all batches from 2006-07 academic session. They also submitted copies of a memorandum to the vice-chancellor, faculty dean and department chairmen in favour of their demands. The students threatened to go for agitation if their demands were not met immediately.
