Jubo League men 'loot shop' for refusing to pay toll
Ferdousi Begum, wife of a shop owner at Charpara Bazar in Iswarganj upazila, at a press conference here yesterday alleged that a group of Jubo League men looted goods and cash worth Tk 10 lakh from her husband's grocery shop on the night of December 17.
She told the conference that the Jubo League men led by Shahidullah Shahid, elder brother of Iswarganj Jubo League Convener Habibullah Milon, looted the shop at around 11:00 and beat up her husband Syed Amirul Islam as he refused to give them money.
Ferdousi alleged that she and her mother-in-law Badrun Nahar and brother-in-law Syed Emdadul Islam also came under attach as they rushed to the spot on receiving the news.
Amirul is now undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), she said.
“We sought police help. But the officer-in-charge (OC) of Iswarganj Police Station refused to take any action against the Jubo League men,” alleged Syed Rafiqul Islam, elder brother of Syed Amirul, at the press conference at local press club auditorium.
'We left the house after the incident and are now staying at a relative's house in the upazila. The Jubo League men are threatening us with dire consequences if we go for any legal action,” alleged Ferdousi
She demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the Jubo League men involved.
Denying the allegation, OC of Iswarganj Police Station Mizanur Rahman said no such complaint was lodged with the police station as of 5:00pm yesterday.
When contacted, Iswarganj Jubo League Convener Habibullah Milon said he was not aware of such incident. “I remained busy with organisational activities at upazila headquarters on that night,” he said.
