Top outlaw shot dead

Police recovered the bullet-hit body of a top leader of the outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party from Mongla Port area yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam Shahid, 38, leader of the party's Janajuddha faction and son of Abdul Mannan of Kumarkhali village in Mongla upazila. Police said, Shahid was wanted in 16 cases for crimes like murder, robbery and extortion. He was involved in the killing of former Mongla municipality chairman MA Baten, commissioner Salam and BNP leader Halim, they said.
