Robbers loot jewellery shops, post office and houses

Robbers in Kushtia looted 15 jewellery shops and a post office at Somoshpur bazaar in Khoksa upazila early Tuesday. In Munshiganj and Jhalakati, robbers took away valuables from three houses on Tuesday and Sunday. Quoting police, our correspondent in Kushtia said, armed robbers numbering 25/30 raided Somoshpur bazaar and confined all six night guards of the bazaar to a room at about 12:30 am. Then the robbers, divided in several groups started looting the jewellery shops located at different points of the bazaar. Police said, robbers took away gold ornaments and cash worth about Tk 30 lakh. A sub-post office located at the main point of the bazaar was also looted. Robbers broke the locker of the post office and took away Tk 2 lakh and other valuables worth about Tk 20,000. Police picked up the six night guards for interrogation in connection with the robbery. UNB from Jhalakati reports: Armed robbers stormed into a house at Bansbunia village in Kathalia upazila and looted valuables worth Tk 2 lakh injuring four inmates early Sunday. Locals said, the gang numbering 10/12 swooped on the house of Pulok Som at about 1:00 am. They took the inmates hostage at gunpoint and beat them mercilessly. Later, they took away valuables including cash and gold ornaments worth Tk 2 lakh. Injured Putul Rani, 40, a schoolteacher, Jhumur, 20, Nupur, 6, and Pulok Som, 27, were admitted to nearby Amua hospital. According to a report from Munshiganj, robbers looted valuables from two houses at Madhya Kamargaon village in Srinagar upazila early Tuesday. Locals said, a gang numbering 12-14 stormed into the houses of expatriate Hasan and rice trader Liton Bepari late at night. They took the house inmates hostages at gunpoint and looted 50 tolas gold ornaments, Tk 2 lakh in cash, bank DD of Tk 12 lakh and eight mobile phone sets. Three people including Liton were also injured in the attack by the hoodlums as they tried to resist them. Later, a police patrol team chased the robbers but they managed to escape after exchange of gunshots with the law-enforcers.
