Arrestee flees custody

A young man, arrested in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, fled Savar model police station custody Thursday night. The accused was identified as Roni, 28, son of Korban Ali of Ghoshpara in Dhamrai. Police said Roni developed an affair with Riya, 14, a student of class X of local Public Administration Training Centre and married her without the consent of her parents. After the incident, Riya's father filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with the police station. Police detained Roni along with Riya Thursday and took him to the police station. But he ran away from the thana custody around midnight. Sub-Inspector Rezaul Karim chased the fleeing accused but stumbled down on the ground a few yards away. He was admitted to Dhaka Orthopedic Hospital with broken arm.
