Jubo League man held on charge of hotel looting

A local Jubo League leader was arrested on Friday on charge of looting money and a mobile phone set from a hotel after assaulting a hotel employee in Dhunat poura area. The arrestee, Saidul Islam, 40, is secretary of Dhunat poura unit Jubo League and son of Khorshed Ali of Sadar upazila. Locals said, a group of Jubo League men swooped on Moon Foods hotel on the night of December 19. They at one stage beat up the hotel employees and looted Tk 39,000 from the cash box and a mobile phone set. After the incident, hotel owner Matiar Rahman, also a freedom fighter, filed a case against four Jubo League leaders, including Saidul and Chand Mia, with the local police station. Police after preliminary investigation arrested Saidul in the afternoon.
