RMG workers
From the January 26, 2010 issue of The Daily Star, we learned about RMG workers going on rampage after a road accident in which one of their fellow workers was killed and 14 others injured. It is alleged that they torched 15 vehicles and vandalised many factories. Eight policemen and many people were injured during the violent protest.
We sympathise for the victims of the accident but we do not support this sort of protest. In fact, we deplore the mayhem.
What is the fault of other vehicles and establishments, why should those become targets?
In our country drivers cannot stop and help the injured after an accident, knowing very well what is in store for them. If they get the opportunity, they flee the scene.
For this reason, many injured people are deprived of prompt medical attention.
Therefore, we request the public not to become violent, give the driver a chance to help the victims and let the law-enforcing agents investigate the case and take proper action.
