Vow to end violence against women
The International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women was observed yesterday in Sirajganj, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Pabna with a vow to end the menace once for all from the society.
Various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day, report our correspondents.
In Sirajganj, Durbar Network and Naripakkho jointly brought out a procession in the town, followed by a rally, held at the conference room of Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer's office.
In Rangamati, a workshop was held at the auditorium of the Hill District Council. Participants stressed on coordinated efforts to stop violence against women.
In Khagrachhari, speakers at a meeting called for combined efforts of all to raise awareness against repression on women.
Durbar Network and Naripakka jointly organised the meeting at Zilla Shilpakala Academy to mark the occasion.
Khagrachhari Hill District Council (KHDC) Chairman Monindra Lal Tripura was present as chief guest.
Among others, Additional District Magistrate Monindra Kishor Majumder, Civil Surgeon Dr. Abu Taher, Regional Official of Durbar Network Sheikh Farzana Ali and General Secretary of Khagrachhari district Durbar Network Pratima Roaza addressed.
A colorful procession was also brought out in the hill town. The procession was led by Khagrachhari Hill District Council (KHDC) Chairman Monindra Lal Tripura.
In Pabna, Amorai Pari, an NGO, launched a fortnight long awareness campaign to stop violence against women.
The secretary of Pabna Press Club, Utpal Mirza formally launched the campaign.
A colorful procession marked the occasion. Processionists marched the main streets of the town. Later, a view-exchange meeting was held at Pabna Press Club.
