UP chairman held for VGF rice misuse
Joint forces of yesterday arrested Pirgachha Sadar union parishad chairman Afsar Ali on charge of misappropriating rice under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme.
The UP chairman, who is also the president of Pirgachha upazila unit BNP, was later handed over to Pirgachha Police Station.
Earlier a number of poor people of Pirgachha union, who had been brought under VGF programme, complained to Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Khondker Atiar Rahman that the chairman misappropriated the rice instead of distributing it among them.
A team of district administration inquired into the complaint and detected anomalies in VGF rice distribution, the deputy commissioner said.
