Speakers demand on 'Rajshahi massacre day'
Speakers at a memorial meeting have demanded trial of 1971 war criminals in a special tribunal.
Calling upon the pro-liberation forces to be united for a joint movement, they said many countries brought the war criminals under trial after forming special tribunals.
Rajshahi Muktijudha Itihas Songrokkhon Committee (Rajshahi Liberation War History Protection Committee) organised the memorial discussion meeting at a city restaurant on Sunday evening to mark 'Rajshahi Gonohatya Dibas' (Rajshahi massacre day).
On November 25 in 1971, Pakistan army killed 17 people including intellectuals, businessmen and progressive minded persons at Shirirampur in Rajshahi city by the Padma river.
Freedom fighter, poet and writer Ruhul Amain Pramanik was present as the main speaker on the memory meeting presided over by committee convener Prof ANM Saleh.
Rajshahi Union of Journalists president and committee member secretary Hassan Millat, Awami League leaders Omar Faruk Chowdhury and Nurul Huda Sarker, Dr Tashiqul Islam Raza, Elahi Bux Mondol, freedom fighter Farhad Ali Mia, advocate Motiur Rahman, Nowres Ali, martyred family members Monjur Faruk, Towfiqur Rahman, Golam Kibria, Golzer Hossain, Jatiyatabadi Samajtantrik Dal leader Abdullah Al Masud Shibli addressed the meeting.
The speakers demanded exemplary punishment of the people belonging to Razakar, Al Badar and Al Shams after filing sedition cases against them.
This will help upholding of justice and rule of law.
They urged the government to take necessary steps for preserving the biography of 17 Rajshahi martyrs for our next generation. They also urged construction of a memorial at Shirirampur.
