<i>'Dhulauri massacre day' today</i>
Today is November 27, Dhulauri massacre day. On this day in 1971, the Pakistan occupation Army and their local collaborators killed 27 innocent people in remote Dhulauri village in Santhia upazila in the district.
“They [Pakistan army and their collaborators] killed the freedom fighters and the innocent villagers mercilessly. We still remember with horror the killing, loot and arson on that gloomy night,” said Abdul Kuddus, an eyewitness of the massacre on that night.
As some 200 freedom fighters from different areas came to take shelter in Dhulauri village on the night, the collaborator informed the occupation army and over five hundred Pakistani soldiers cordoned the village and started killing, arson and looting. Eight freedom fighters sacrificed their life on that fateful night.
The occupation army also shot dead 27 innocent villagers after lining them up on the Ichhamati river.
The bodies of martyred freedom fighters and villagers were buried in a mass grave in front of Fakirpara Primary School in Dhulauri union. Freedom fighters in Santhia upazila have urged building a monument there.
