Bachchu Murder Case
Fugitive convict held in Kushtia
Kushtia police arrested a condemned fugitive in Faridpur early yesterday.
The arrestee, Newaz Morshed alias Palu, 40, was sentenced to death in a BNP leader murder case in 2001.
According to the police, a team led by Sub-Inspector Abdur Razzak raided a house of Alfadanga in Faridpur at about 2.30am and arrested Palu.
On September 12 in 2005, a Kushtia court sentenced Palu and six others to death in Nurul Islam Bachchu murder case. Bachchu, also a contractor, was killed on September 2 in 2001.
Five of the convicts are in different jails, while two others, including Palu, had been absconding since the verdict was pronounced, the police said.
BACHCHU'S DAUGHTER STILL IN JAIL
Police arrested 13-year-old daughter of Bachchu on March 23, suspecting her to be a cadre of outlawed Gono Mukti Fouj. The girl, Ananya Islam, is a student of class nine at Housing Girls High School. Police arrested her after her uncles filed a general diary (GD) with Kushtia sadar police station on March 9. In the GD, they alleged that Anayna was involved with the extremist outfit and threatening them with death. Police produced the girl before a court on March 24 and prayed for a five-day remand. The court asked the police to quiz the girl to jail. When contacted, Officer-In-Charge (OC) of sadar police station Asaduzzaman said the police are conducting more investigations into the matter.
