Misappropriation
Patuakhali poura chairman charge-sheeted by ACC
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has submitted chargesheet against BNP leader and Patuakhali Pourasabha chairman Mostaq Ahmed for misappropriating Tk 72,900 by selling a jeep.
ACC assistant director Kazi Shamsul Islam, also investigation officer (IO) submitted the chargesheet with the magistrate's court on November 25.
Mostaq is now in Patuakhali jail after his arrest by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) from Dhaka on August 9.
Mostaq Ahmed sold an old jeep at Tk 52,100 through an open bid on July 24 in 2002, according to the chargesheet. But the motor vehicle inspector of Barisal division fixed the price of the jeep at Tk 1.25 lakh. No government representative was present during the open bid while his (Mostaq) close aides took part in the bid.
Shibu Lal Das, a close aide to Mostaq bought the jeep. Mostaq sold the jeep at Tk 52,100 less than Tk 72,900 its official price. ACC filed the case with Sadar police station in 2002.
Mostaq is also facing another case filed by ACC for misappropriating over Tk 1 crore.
