The court examined 22 prosecution witnesses in the case. Arnab Kumar Das, son of Bimal Krishna Das of Saihati village in Kaligonj was abducted by a group of miscreants on June 18, 2000. Villagers recovered his trisected body from a ditch near his house on June 21. Trial of the case began on June 11 at a court here after six years and nine months of the murder. The trial was delayed as two main accused -- Abdus Sattar and his son Khalilur Rahman-- submitted a petition to the High Court in 2003 seeking quashment. The High Court rejected the petition on March 1, 2006 and asked the lower court to resume trial.
