Youth trampled by wild elephant in Sherpur

Wild elephant trampled a young man to death in Shreebodri upazila in Sherpur district Tuesday night. A herd of hungry and wild elephants came down to bordering Balijuri village at around 3:45am when panicked villagers tried to drive away the wild elephants by beating drums, bursting crackers and burning torches, police and forest department sources said. Habibor Rahman Habi, 22, of Komorbhangi Tangrapara village under Roumary upazila in Kurigram district, died on the spot being trampled by the elephants, they said. He had gone there to work as a harvesting labourer. Wild elephants trampled two persons to death and injured four others at Batkuchi and Burunga Kalapani villages in Poragaon union in Nalitabari upazila and destroyed over 50 houses in last week.
