'Varying use of jute will boost job opportunity'
Diversified use of jute, especially for value added products, bears bright prospect of earning a good amount of foreign currency, speakers said at the inaugural session of a three-day fair of flamboyant jute items in the town.
The use of jute as a natural fibre is increasing throughout the world and its proper utilisation can create more employment facilities in our country, they said
Small Scale Entrepreneurship in Diversified Jute Products of Jute Diversification Promotion Centre (JDPC) under the Ministry of Textile and Jute organised the fair at a city hotel yesterday.
Such fairs are organised in different districts to make people aware about the diversified use of jute so that small entrepreneurship can develop, small-scale project Manager Md Abdus Salam said in his welcome speech.
Jute can be blended with other natural fibres to make value added products and diversified jute products along with conventional ones is needed to cope with the present competitive world, he added.
A good number of visitors thronged the fair on the first day.
Some 40 stalls displaying jute items like school bags, shoulder bags, vanity bags for women, coin purses, wall hangers, shataranjis, carpet, curtains, bed covers, cushion, sofa and pillow, hot carrier bags, suitcases, brief cases, travel bags, fabric based products and other fashionable items including greeting cards made from jute stick took part in the fair.
Abdur Rashid Sarker, Secretary of Ministry of Textile and Jute inaugurated the fair as chief guest.
