7 get life in Jhenidah
Seven people were sentenced to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) in various criminal cases including an arms case here in two days.
Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah, Additional and Sessions Judge (1st court) here sentenced an armed cadre to life term rigorous imprisonment in an arms case on Thursday.
The convict is Laltu Mondol of Teor Bila village under Alamdanga upazila, Chuadanga.
Harinakundo police arrested Laltu from Teor Billa village and recovered four guns and a bullet from his possession on May 10, 1999.
In another verdict pronounced by the judge of the aforesaid court on Wednesday, five people were sentenced to life term RI in a murder case in Jhenidah.
The convicts are Humayun, Imta, Rafiqul and Mamun, all hailing from Alampur under Moheshpur upazila.
Nazmul Hossain, a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee and son of Baduruddin was killed by the convicts. Earlier, Nazmul's friend Humayun called him out of his house before killing him with a sharp weapon Previous enmity was the cause of the murder. As Nazmul did not return home, his mother mother went out to search his son but he remained untraced. However, she found the convicts gossiping under a black berry tree near her house. Sanoara, daughter of Dabir Uddin of the same village also saw them gathered at a maize field at night. The court pronounced the verdict after examining 16 witnesses.
Judge Rokeya Begum of Women and Children Repression and Prevention Tribunal here sentenced a rapist to life term RI on Wednesday.
The convict is Md Titon alias Titon Ali of Dhulia village under Harinakundo upazila.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that Titon raped a woman at her house at night on October 1, 2006.
The judge pronounced the verdict after examining all the papers and medical documents.
