Trial of war criminals is nation's demand

The speakers at a freedom fighters' assembly in Bera upazila in the district said trial and punishment of the 1971 war criminals is now demand of the whole nation.
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Bera upazila unit command organised the assembly at Bera Public Library auditorium yesterday afternoon.
“Their [war criminals] arrogance is no doubt a challenge to the nation. The whole nation is united for trial of the war criminals, who killed innocent people during the Liberation War. Their offence is unpardonable,” said Awami League central leader Prof Abu Sayed in his speech as chief guest at the meeting.
There are several mass graveyards in Santhia and Bera upazilas in the district that symbolise the war criminals' brutality, Sayed said, adding that legal action would be taken against the war criminals.
If the war criminals were brought to justice they would not dare making defamatory comments about the Liberation War and its heroes and getting involved in conspiracy against the nation, speakers said at the meeting.
They urged declaration of December 3 as Bera upazila massacre day.
Abdul Latif, Al-Mahmud Sarkar, Golzar Hossain, Prof Wazed Ali, Razzak Mondol, Abdul Mannan Manu addressed among others in the meeting presided over by commander of Muktijoddha Sangsad Bera upazila unit SM Amir Ali.
