KCC ward by-polls June 29

The by-election to the post of councillor at ward No. 24 of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) will be held on June 29. The post fell vacant following the murder of ward councillor Shahid Iqbal Bithar who was gunned down at midnight on May 11 last year in front of his residence at Musalmanpara. The deputy election commissioner in charge of Khulna division announced the election schedule on Sunday. The last date for submitting nomination papers is June 13. Nomination papers will be scrutinised on June 14 and the date for withdrawal of nomination papers is June 16. Meanwhile, Runu Iqbal, wife of slain ward councillor Bithar, has demanded that the charge sheet in the murder case be submitted before the by-election. Otherwise, the by-election would not be free and fair, as the masterminds of the murder are still at large, she told this correspondent yesterday.
