BNP sit-in today
The main opposition BNP observes mass sit-in today in protest against 'the government interference in the judiciary and appointment of incompetent and controversial persons as justice'.
Like-minded parties including Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) and leaders and workers of different professional bodies will join the programme aiming at staging an anti-government showdown.
Nazrul Islam Khan, member of the BNP standing committee, yesterday said its Chairperson Khaleda Zia will present at the four-hour programme which is due to begin at 10:00am on the premises of the Engineers Institution, Bangladesh.
He said all preparations have been taken to make the programme successful with a massive participation of people.
The opposition leader announced the sit-in as part of her anti-government movement from her Dhaka grand rally on May 19. The party will also observe hartal on June 27.
The party has taken all-out efforts to make the programme successful. The former premier sat in a series of meetings with different political parties and professional organisations and urged them to join the programme.
BNP leaders said the sit-in will finally turned into a massive gathering as they expect people from all walks of life of the society to attend the programme to protest government's 'wrongdoings'.
