RO for action against 3 docs
The Returning Officer (RO) for Chittagong City Corporation election yesterday sent a letter to the Election Commission seeking action against three government doctors for participating in polls campaign of a mayoral candidate.
The RO, Jesmin Tuli, in her letter said that following specific complaint from a doctor, and a newspaper advertisement, they could know that Dr Mujibul Haque Khan and Dr Nasir Uddin Mahmud, assistant professors at Chittagong Medical College (CMC), and Dr Mohammad Sharif, assistant director at Chittagong Family Planning Office took part in a campaign for mayoral candidate ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury.
The letter mentioned the restriction in the electoral code of conduct on polls campaign by government officials.
Contacted, the RO said they sent the letter to the EC for action in this regard.
Dr Mujibul, is CMC unit president of Awami League-backed Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad, Dr Nasir Uddin is general secretary of CMC unit of the parisahad, and Chittagong unit of Bangladesh Medical Association, and Dr Sharif is general secretary of Chittagong district unit of the parishad, and a member of the BMA central committee. They addressed and sought votes for AL-backed mayoral candidate Mohiuddin at an exchange of view meeting organised under the banner of the BMA and the parishad units and held at CMC auditorium on Thursday.
