Road crashes kill 4, injure 61
At least four people were killed and 61 injured in separate road accidents in Rangpur, Sylhet, Satkhira and Chandpur yesterday.
Our correspondent from Rangpur reports: Two unidentified people were killed and 25 others injured in an accident on Bogra-Rangpur highway at Mojidpur village under Pirganj upazila yesterday.
Witnesses said the accident occurred when a Pabna-bound bus of Uttara Paribahan collided head-on with Rangpur-bound truck.
Pirganj police said the accident occurred when the truck was trying to overtake another bus.
The injured bus passengers were rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Condition of five passengers was stated to be critical.
Staff correspondent from Sylhet adds: One person was killed and 30 others sustained injuries as a passenger bus skidded off the Habiganj-Shaistaganj road yesterday.
Police said the accident took place in the Dhuliakhanl area at about 12:30pm when a Habiganj-bound passenger bus from Madhabpur upazila skidded off the road while giving side to another bus coming from the opposite direction. The injured were admitted to Habiganj Modern Hospital.
The Fire Brigade personnel and locals recovered body of bus helper Parimal from under the vehicle.
Our correspondent from Satkhira says: A fertiliser trader was killed and his staff injured in a road accident on Satkhira-Jessore road near Navaron in Sharsha upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Azizur Rahman, 50 of village Nathupur in Kalaroa upazila, also a fertiliser trader, of Hospital Road in Kalaroa Bazar.
Injured Abdus Sattar, 40, a staff of the fertiliser shop, was taken to Navaron Hospital in critical condition, hospital sources said.
Quoting local people, police said the accident occurred when a bus hit a motorcycle coming from Kalaroa from Jhhikargachha, leaving Azizur dead on the sot and his staff Sattar injured seriously.
A correspondent from Chandpur says: At least 15 people including 13 prisoners were injured yesterday when a police van hit a roadside tree on Chandpur-Kumilla highway in the Palli Bidyut area.
Of the injured, condition of two brothers who were walking along the road was stated to be critical.
They are identified as Al-Amin, 18, and Hridoy, 12, son of Ishak, a farmer hailed from Doalia village under haziganj upazila of the district.
Sub-inspector Nazrul of Chandpur model police station said the accident took place when the driver of the police pick-up van carrying 13 members of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), including a prisoner with death sentence, lost his control and hit a roadside tree.
Chandpur model police rescued the injured JMB members and the two boys.
Al Amin's condition was stated to be very much critical.
