Death of Couple in Road Crash
Bus driver, owner yet to be arrested
Police are yet to trace the driver and owner of the bus, which caused early death to a young couple in Moghbazar on Saturday.
The bodies of the couple--Saiful Islam Shaheen and Soheli Akhter Shampa,--have been kept at the Birdem mortuary in Faridpur. They would be buried today after Zohr prayers on arrival of Shampa's brother Obayez Tareque Sohagh who is scheduled to reach Dhaka from Canada at 4:00am.
Shampa's aunt Dr Nazmanar also a deputy commissioner of Naogaon said their family members are in a state of shock and they are hardly eating or drinking since the accident.
Shibli Noman officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station said “We have written to Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) asking them to identify the owner of the killer vehicle so that we can arrest the driver.”
He said it has not yet been ascertained whether a mechanical shortcoming or unskilled driving was responsible for the accident, as they are yet to receive any report from BRTA in this regard.
An inspector from BRTA will examine the vehicle soon to find out whether it displayed any mechanical flaws during the time of the accident, Noman added.
Dr SM Saiful Islam, plaintiff and Shampa's uncle said he had collected her lunch carrier and helmet which were also damaged by the bus. The police have asked him to hand them over as evidence, he added.
The reckless bus killed Saiful Islam Shaheen, 35, sales executive of a private firm, and his 5-months expectant wife Soheli Akhter Shampa, 30, administrative officer of the daily Janakantha in the capital's Moghbazar Saturday morning.
