UP secy arrested for VGF rice scam
The secretary of Bachamara Union Parisad (UP) in Daulatpur upazila has been arrested on charge of misappropriation of rice meant for Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) police said.
Bachamara UP secretary Abdul Hamid was arrested with 675 kilogram of VGF rice packed in 45 bags at his Somejpur village house under Daulatpur police station Tuesday night, they said.
A police team of Daulatpur police station conducted the raid, police sources said.
When contacted, Daulatpur police station officer-in-Charge (OC) Meer Rezaul Hossain admitted the fact saying a case was filed against him on charge of misappropriation of VGF rice.
The UP secretary took 675 kilogram of rice in name of distribution among 45 VGF cardholders in his area. But the cardholders were not present to take delivery of their allotted rice, the OC said.
