8 killed in road accidents
At least eight people were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Brahmanbaria and Pabna yesterday.
A correspondent from Sirajganj reports: At least four people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents at Shahjadpur and Ullah Para upazila here yesterday.
Police said A coach ran over several people in the Garadaho area under Shahjadpur upazila at around 11:00pm on Wednesday when they were returning home in a rickshaw van, leaving two of them dead on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Mannan, 40, son of jabber Ali, and Fajor Ali, 40, son of Inu Mondal, of Goihatta village under Ullah Para upazila.
The injured were rushed to the Potajia health complex.
Meanwhile, A mini bus hit an autorickshaw at Nabogram under Ullah Para upazila, leaving one dead on the spot, and three others injured. Another succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
Of the dead, one was identified as Rabiul, 60, of Kamarkhond upazila while the identity could not be known immediately.
The injured were rushed to the Ullah Para upazila health complex.`
Our correspondent from Rangamati adds: Personal Assistant (PA) to the chairman of Rangamati Hill District Council (RHDC) was killed when a truck ran over him yesterday while he was returning in a motorbike from Diabetic Hospital in Old Bus Stand area.
The deceased are Gonjak Marma, 44, son of Chaithui Marma of village Garjan Tali in the town.
Police and witnesses said a truck ran over Ganjak in the Old Bus Stand area at about 10:00am, leaving him injured seriously.
He was rushed to the Sadar Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Police seized the truck. But the driver managed to escape shortly after the incident.
Our correspondent from Khagrachhari says: A two-year-old child was killed in a road accident at Sonaipul Bazar under Ramgorh upazila in Khagrachhari yesterday.
He was identified as Mehadi Hasan, 2, son of Abul Mia from Sonaipul area under same upazila.
Ramgorh police said Mehadi came out of house with his grandfather Mohammad Munshi Mia to walk on the road in the morning. A speeding zeep (locally known as Chander Gari) crushed him to death on the road. Police seized the zeep but driver managed to escape.
Our correspondent from Brahmanbaria adds: One woman was killed in a road accident while a speeding bus knocked her down on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Toll Plaza Turning Point (Gul Chattar) under Ashuganj upazila on Wednesday night.
The dead was identified as Khursheda Begum, 55, of Ashuganj.
Witnesses and police said a speeding bus of Shyamoli Paribahan crushed her to death under its wheels while she was crossing the highway.
The agitated people seized the bus and handed it over to the police.
The driver and helper managed to escape.
Our correspondent from Pabna adds: At least one person was killed and five others were injured as a speeding truck hit a Nasiman in Chatmohar Railway Bazar area at about 10:30pm on Wednesday.
The dead was identified as Shumon, 25, of village Mothurapur in Chatmohar upazila.
Shumon was killed on the spot while five were injured in the accident.
