Strike halts Benapole trade
Export and import activities between Bangladesh and India through Benapole land port came to a halt yesterday due to the strike enforced by the district Truck Workers Co-ordination Council.
The council imposed the strike that lasted from early morning till 3 pm to protest the arrest of a Bangladeshi driver.
Benapole Customs Cargo Superintendent Tauhid Haldar said Rubel Ahmed entered the Indian Petra Pole port with a goods laden truck of TATA.
However, the driver was stuck at the port for a number of days, as the C & F agent of the Indian region did not submit the essential papers on time.
Joint Commissioner of Customs Ismail Hossain called a meeting yesterday afternoon at his office, where workers unions, clearing and forwarding agent associations, transport owners associations, customs and port authorities were present.
After the meeting, the district Truck Workers Co-ordination Council called off the strike.
