Mannan, Azam get bail,11 others sent to jail
A Dhaka court yesterday granted bail to BNP leader and former state minister Prof MA Mannan, Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan and four others in a case filed for preventing police from discharging their duties and vandalising the vehicles at Tejgaon in the city during hartal hours.
Meantime, 11 others arrested from Paltan and Kotwali areas for torching vehicles were sent to jail after being produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafa Shahriar passed the order after Tejgoan police produced Mannan, Azam, Chand Miah, Abu Zafar, Jewel and Monir Hossain before it with a seven-day remand prayer.
The same court also sent Mohiuddin, Jewel, Saiful, Imran and Nasim to jail after they were produced before it in the case filed with Paltan Police Station for torching a vehicle in the city's Bijoynagar area on Saturday.
Another Dhaka court sent five Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders and activists of Jagannath University including its President Golam Moula Shahin to jail in a case filed under the Speedy Trial (Law and Order Disruption) Act.
The four others are Emran, Abdul Kayum, SM Al Amin and Nurul Amin.
