Chemicals, ready-made doors gutted in Ctg fire

Chemicals and ready-made doors were gutted in a fire at a godown at Ice Factory Road in Chittagong yesterday. The fire broke out at the semi-pucca godown at around 5:00am and engulfed the stockpiles of paint chemicals, chalk powder and calcium carbonate of Sana Corporation and ready-made plastic and wooden doors, and plywood of Tak Corporation, fire service sources said. The godown belongs to Karnaphuli Paper Mills. Ten fire fighting units from different fire stations rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire after a struggle for six hours. The loss was estimated at around Tk 3 crore, said Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Director Mohammad Ruhul Amin. The cause of the fire could not be known immediately, he said.
