A media delegation from the Yunnan Daily Press Group in China visited The Daily Star office in the city yesterday and exchanged views with senior journalists of the newspaper on various issues, especially media cooperation between the two countries. The Chinese delegation led by Xu Tiyi, vice president and chief editor of the Yunnan Daily Press Group (YDPG), emphasised the need for increased people-to-people contact and said the media of the two countries can play an important role to this end. Shah Husain Imam, associate editor of The Daily Star, briefed the delegation on the newspaper and discussed Bangladesh-China relationship. He hoped that media relations between the two countries would be strengthened further in the days to come. Xu Tiyi highly praised the role of The Daily Star and said that they know about daily events of Bangladesh and its people and culture through this newspaper. He also said the Yunnan Daily Press Group wants to establish a direct link with The Daily Star and increase cooperation. Other members of the Chinese delegation were Vice Director of the Group Tian Jing, Director of the Yunnan Daily Liu Hong, Yang Zelin, Li Hongzhi, Xiao Jinpeng, Li Hong Feng and Yang Weiming. Bangladesh-China People's Friendship Association President Anwarul Ameen was also present on the occasion. Brig Gen (Retd) Shahedul Anam Khan, editor, Defence and Strategic Affairs, The Daily Star, Aasha Mehreen Amin, editor of The Star, Zafar Sobhan, editor, Editorial & Op-Ed, Fattahul Alim, senior assistant editor, Arun Devnath, business editor, and Rezaul Karim, diplomatic correspondent, were present at the meeting.
