Mahmudur gets bail

A Dhaka court yesterday granted bail to Mahmudur Rahman, acting editor of the recently closed the daily Amar Desh, in a defamation case filed against him for terming the family members of State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam 'razakars'. Metropolitan Magistrate M Shahadat Hossain passed the order upon a bond of Tk 10,000 with two guarantors. Morshedul Islam, younger brother of Qamrul, filed the case with the court on May 30 against Mahmudur, Amar Desh publisher Hasmat Ali and two reporters for publishing the story on May 27.
