Pilkhana Carnage

CID gets more time for investigation

Court Correspondent
A Dhaka court yesterday asked the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to complete its investigation by July 27 into a case filed in connection with February 25-26 carnage at BDR Headquarters. This is the 12th time that the court gave the CID a deadline for submission of the report. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Enamul Haque passed the order after the CID's Special Superintendent of Police Abdul Kahar Akand, also the investigation officer of the case, failed to submit the report by Wednesday, the scheduled date for submission of the report. Earlier on May 19, the court asked the CID to submit the report by Wednesday. The case was filed after at least 74 people, including 57 army officers, were killed by the Bangladesh Rifles members at Pilkhana headquarters on February 25-26 in 2009. The CID has arrested 2,300 BDR men and civilians since the massacre took place at the Pilkhana.
