Birth Registration Day today

Unb, Dhaka
The National Birth Registration Day will be observed countrywide today to ensure every child's right to be registered and have a name. The government has chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day through creating awareness among the mass people. This year's theme of the Day is: “Birth certificate is a right: It's the responsibility of all to ensure the right.” The government in 2007 officially declared July 3 as the National Birth Registration Day. President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday issued separate messages on the occasion. Zillur in his message said Bangladesh is a populous country. It is essential to have accurate figures on population and rate of population growth in designing different development plans and its implementation. He urged all to participate in the birth registration process for their own interest. “I hope the observance of the day will encourage and inspire people in registering births.” The president wished a grand success of the day. In her message, Hasina said the birth certificate is needed in 16 sectors of civic life. “I urge all citizens to collect birth certificates.” She said information relating to birth certificate for Ukhia of Cox's Bazar and Jessore Sadar upazila are available on internet. The government will soon start distributing birth certificates through internet in nine districts. “This activity will be expanded to all districts in phases. As a result, the registration process will be hassle-free and easy.” The prime minister wished success of all programmes taken up for the day.
