Mob puts up barricade on Jessore road, vandalises 25 vehicles
At least two people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Manikganj and Jessore.
Our Manikganj Correspondent reports: At least two people were killed and two others injured in a road accident at Medulia area under Singair upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Atik, 25, a college student, son of Moslem Uddin of Char Azimpur village and Raihan, 15, also a school student, son of Ayub Ali of Bati-Joymontop village under Singair upazila.
Officer-in-Charge Shafiqur Rahman of Singair Police Station said the accident occurred at around 9:15pm on Saturday when two motorcyclists were overtaking each other on Hemayetpur- Singair road, leaving two dead on the spot and injuring two others.
Injured Farhad, 27, and Sohel, 20, were admitted to a local health complex.
Our Jessore Correspondent Says: Local people and students went on a rampage yesterday following a road accident that left a student seriously injured at Churamonkati area under Sadar upazila of the district.
Sources said at around 8:00am yesterday a Meherpur bound bus hit Shakil Ahmad, 14, a class nine student of Churamonkati High School on Jessore-Jhenidah high way.
Shakil was rushed to Jessore General Hospital, but later he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
On spreading the news, the agitated people along with the students barricaded the highway in demand of a speed breaker.
They also vandalized at least 25 vehicles that halted the vehicular movement for 4 hours on the highway.
However, the agitated people removed the barricade from the highway at around 1:00pm, after administration officials and police personnel's assured them of constructing a speed breaker on the spot within 24 hours.
