Mannan Bhuiyan in coma
Admitted to hospital after returning from Singapore
Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, former secretary general of BNP, was admitted to the city's Square Hospital last night with "unconscious and breathlessness condition" on his return to home from a Singapore hospital.
Family sources of Bhuiyan, one of the doyens of the country's politics, said he was in a coma and provided with artificial life support at ICU of Square hospital.
Dr Mirza Nazim Uddin, head of the ICU, along with other specialist doctors are observing his physical condition, hospital sources told The Daily Star.
Earlier at night, Mannan Bhuiyan was taken back home by an air-ambulance from a hospital in Singapore where he was undergoing cancer treatment from June 18.
Bhuiyan, also a former minister, was undergoing treatment at Coronary Care Unit of Singapore National University Hospital and provided with the artificial life support since last Monday.
Prof Mariom Begum, wife of the politician, requested the countrymen to pray to the almighty for his immediate recovery.
Mannan Bhuiyan has served the BNP as secretary general for 11 years but expelled by the party chairperson before her arrest in September 2007 during the caretaker government.
