The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday pressed charges against five former army officers in connection with a case filed against them for misappropriating Tk one crore in 2000. The accused are former Director of Bangladesh National Cadet Core (BNCC) Brigadier General (retd) Mohammad Ali Hassan, its former Deputy Director Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Anwaruzzaman, its former Assistant Director Major (retd) ABM Nesar Uddin, Colonel (retd) Mohammad Nurul Islam and Major (retd) Mohammad Reazul Haq. ACC Assistant Director SMM Akhter Hamid Bhuiyan, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka showing 18 people as prosecution witnesses. The IO prayed for issuance of arrest warrants against the accused and an order to attach their properties as they have been absconding since the case was filed. According to the prosecution, the Disaster and Rehabilitation Ministry on November 13, 1997 allotted 1,500 metric tons of wheat to BNCC for its Savar Training Field development. But the entrusted officers sold the wheat and embezzled the money. The now defunct Bureau of Anti-Corruption filed the case against the accused with Uttara Police Station on June 21, 2000.
