Schoolboy among 7 killed in road accidents
Seven people were killed and 50 more injured in separate road accidents in Lalmonirhat, Gopalganj, Mymensingh, Manikganj and Satkhira yesterday.
Lalmonirhat correspondent adds: A class three student was killed on the spot as a truck hit him in Lalmonirhat yesterday morning.
The schoolboy was identified as Nazmul Hossain, 8, son of Ashraf Ali at North Gobdha village under Aditmari upazila.
Nazmul was a student of Gobdha Primary School.
Police said the truck owned by local Jahangir Alom, hit the schoolboy standing by the road. Local caught the truck but its driver managed to flee.
Gopalganj correspondent adds: A head-on collision between two buses left a woman dead and 40 others injured on Dhaka-Barisal Highway in Gopalganj yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Santi Cakrabarti, 70, of Sadarpur in Faridpur.
The accident occurred at Raghdi under Muksudpur upazila of the district. The bus going to Madaripur from Dhaka and another bus going to Faridpur from Gopalganj ran into each other said Liakat Ali, officer-in-charge of Muksudpur Police Station.
The injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College, Madaripur Sadar Hospital and Rajur Upazila Hospital.
Both drivers fled the spot following the accident.
UNB adds: Two people were killed and 10 others injured as a truck plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway yesterday.
Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Police said the truck driver lost control over the wheel and it fell into a roadside ditch at Darirampur in Trishal upazila, leaving two people dead on the spot.
The victims were traveling on the truck.
Two of the injured were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Police later seized the truck, but its driver managed to escape.
Manikganj correspondent adds: A man was killed when a truck hit his motorcycle on Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Manikganj yesterday.
The victim was identified as Abdul Halim, 50, son of Abdul Jolil of Ghonapara at Shivalaya upazila in Manikganj.
Police said the accident occurred at around 3:15 pm when an Aricha-bound truck hit the victim's motorcycle from behind, killing him on the spot.
Satkhira correspondent adds: Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Satkhira yesterday.
The deceased were Abu Bakar Siddique, 30, son of Abdul Bari of Baburabad in Debhata upazila and Bidhan Chandra Mondal, 33, son of Shib Pada Mondal of Kapasdanga in Tala upazila.
Police said the accident occurred when Abu Bakar Siddique's motorbike was knocked down by a bus at Gazirhat in Debhata upazila on Satkhira-Kaliganj Road, leaving him seriously injured. He succumbed to his injuries on the way to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.
In another incident, police said a microbus ran over fish trader Bidhan Mondal while he was crossing the Satkhira-Khulna road near Kapasdanga in Tala upazila. He died on the way to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
