BSMMU Irregularities
DU teachers demand probe
Some 325 teachers of Dhaka University demanded formation of a judicial enquiry for investigating into all irregularities and corruption in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
In a joint statement yesterday, they also called for making the investigative reports public and restoring congenial atmosphere for medical treatment at the country's lone university.
They said they noted with deep concern that skilled, experienced, meritorious and senior physicians from country's lone medical university were sacked and transferred while non-meritorious, party cadres and those having political affiliations were appointed in order to destroy the country's healthcare system, they said.
Quoting newspaper reports, they said that over 100 teachers, who have no experience and publication and have connection with a party, were appointed to higher post without Public Service Commission's recommendations, advertisements and tests.
They called upon the authorities concerned for restoring congenial atmosphere for medical treatment at the university.
Signatories to the statement include Prof Aminur Rahman Majumdar, Prof Sirajul Islam, Prof Anwarul Islam, Prof Akhter Hossain Khan, Prof Jahidul Islam, Prof Ashraful Islam Chowdhury, Prof Kamrul Hasan, Prof M Abdur Rashed and Prof Abdus Sattar.
