Fake juice factories unearthed

Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested one person and a large quantity of sub-standard juice during drives in Thakurgaon yesterday. Sub-Inspector of DB Abul Hasnat said acting on a tip-off a DB team raided a house at Shahapara and found an illegal juice factory producing sub-standard juice. They also seized different materials including several juice-making and packaging machines, saccarine, industrial dyes and unauthorised orange flavours and arrested its owner Amir Hossain, 32, son of late Dabirul Islam. Following Amir Hossain's information, the team later conducted separate drives at the houses of Touhidul Islam, son of Samsul Haque, at College Para and Abdur Rauf, son of late Dabirul Islam of Chitchilawrong of the district. Police recovered fake juice packs, chutney and chanachur from these two houses. But none could be arrested as the occupants of the house fled sensing the presence of police. DB police filed a case under Special Powers Act, 1974, with Thakurgaon Police Station against the three house owners, SI Hasnat said.
