Woman killed but husband says it 'suicide'

Police recovered the body of a female garment worker from a local clinic in the city's Kuril Badda area yesterday afternoon. Her brother alleged that she was killed but her husband showed it as "suicidal incident." Parveen Begum, 17, wife of minibus driver Sumon, worked at a garment factory at Kuril Bishwa Road area. They also lived in the area. On information, Badda police recovered the body from the clinic and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy. Quoting Sumon, Sub-Inspector Kazi Arifuddin of the police station said when Sumon was outside the house, Parveen committed suicide by hanging herself with the ceiling fan using a scarf around 11:00am. Police picked up Sumon on suspicion of his involvement in the killing. Parveen's brother Shahid alleged that Sumon often tortured his sister. He also alleged that Sumon killed his sister and brought her body in front of local people to prove it as "suicidal incident." Shahid said Parveen and Sumon got married two years back and they have a baby.
