Unite for trial of war criminals
Satkhira FFs urge
Speakers at a discussion on Satkhira Mukta Dibas (Satkhira Liberation Day) yesterday called for creating mass awareness for trial of war criminals.
A strong movement is needed to force the government to put the war criminals) under trial, they said at the discussion organised by Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Satkhira Sadar upazila command on the premises of local Muktijoddha Sangsad Complex.
On December 7 of 1971, Satkhira was liberated from the Pakistani occupation forces after a fierce fighting.
The unfaltering unity of people of all classes that won Bangladesh independence in 1971 is now needed again to implement the demand for the trial of war criminals, speakers said at the meeting.
They demanded increasing freedom fighters' monthly allowance from Tk 500 and allocation of VGF cards for the distressed freedom fighters.
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Satkhira district unit command convener freedom fighter Matiar Rahman was the chief guest at the meeting with Sadar upazila convener of the organisation Abu Siddique in the chair.
Satkhira Pourasava Chairman Sheikh Ashraful Haque, Nazrul Islam, Mosharraf Hossain, Sheikh Abu Nasim Moina and Prof Abu Ahmed were special guests.
The meeting was addressed by, among others, Azibar Rahman, Prof Abdul Bari, advocate Azharul Islam and Abu Bakar Siddique.
Earlier Muktangon, an organisation of students of Satkhira Government College, brought out a procession on the occasion of Satkhira Liberation Day.
About 350 freedom fighters under the banner of Kalaroa upazila unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad at a meeting yesterday demanded punishment of war criminals by forming special tribunals.
The meeting was organised in observance of Kalaroa Liberation Day as Kalaroa was liberated from Pak occupation forces on December 6 in 1971. Kalaroa upazila unit commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Abdul Gaffar presided over the meeting held on the premises of the organization office.
