10 acquitted in Khulna double murder case

Speedy Trial Tribunal of Judge Abdus Salam Shikder on Thursday acquitted all the ten charge-sheeted accused in a case for killing two police constables in March 2003. The acquitted are -- Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Janajuddho) founder Abdur Rashid Malitha alias Dada Tapan, PBCP activists Shahadat Hossain, Asaduzzaman Tipu, Kamal Hossain, Rafiqul Islam Milton, Ekram Hossain, Mashikul Islam Mofiz, Sharifuzzaman Shumon, Milton and Biplob. Police constables Ramesh Chandra and Shariful Islam were killed and two others seriously injured in a bomb attack when they were patrolling near Janata Bank at Sheikhpara in the city in March 2003, goes the prosecution. Sub-inspector Ashraf Hossain lodged an FIR with Sonadanga Police Station on the night of the incident and Inspector Arabinda Biswas of Criminal Investigation Department, Khulna, submitted charge sheet of the case to the court on September 4 in 2004.
