Attack on trader protested

Businessmen of a market in the district's Hathazari upazila yesterday staged demonstration and formed a human chain in protest of assault and battery against one of their fellows. During the one-hour agitation programme starting around 11:00am, they kept shut 300 shops in the area and held a rally, in which police were blamed for their failure to detain the attackers. The protesters said a gang led by Jinnat, a local hooligan, beat up restaurant owner Azad Hossain Roni at Aman Bazar on Wednesday afternoon. Azad came under attack as he refused Jinnat's asking to keep his restaurant close and stop running business there. The victim claimed the hooligans went on a rampage damaging furniture and looting goods of the restaurant and led attack on his another shop in the same area on Tuesday.
