7 killed in road accidents

At least seven people were killed and 16 others injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong, Narsingdi, Panchagarh, Natore and Noakhali yesterday. Staff correspondent from Chittagong reports: At least two people were killed and nine others were injured when an overloaded speeding human hauler (rider) turned upside down at the Tiger pass area intersection yesterday. One of the deceased was identified as Mohammad Raju, son of one Jabed Ali of the city's North Patenga area. The other deceased could not be identified. The injured were identified as Rashid, 45, Faruk, 25, Rajib, 30, Liton, 32, Onupam, 35, Usha Barua, 30, Sulatana Begum, 25, Salah Uddin, 28, and Salam, 18. Initially all eleven injured were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). There, Raju succumbed to his injuries at about 11:00am. The unidentified person, aged around 35, died at around 4:00pm. Our correspondent from Narsingdi says: At least two passengers were killed and five others injured when a Dhaka-bound bus coming from Monohardi collided with a Bhairab -bound bus at Kararchar of Shibpur at around 9:30am yesterday. Eyewitnesses said the Bhairab-bound bus skidded and fell into a roadside ditch killing two passengers instantly. The injured were taken to Dhaka from Narsingdi District Hospital. Our correspondent from Thakurgaon reports: A man was killed and two others injured when a truck crushed a motorbike at Panidubi village on the Panchgarh-Debigonj road in Boda upazila of Panchagarh yesterday. The deceased was identified as Parimol De, 30, son of Deben De of Marea village of Boda upazila in the district. Sattandranath and Akhil of the same village were severely injured. Locals rushed the injured to the Panchagarh Sadar Hospital where they are under treatment. A correspondent from Natore adds: An elderly man was crushed by a speeding BRTC bus while he was crossing the Natore-Rajshahi highway at around 10:00am in Natore town yesterday. The deceased was identified as Abdul Jalil, 80, of village Diyarvita. The accident occurred near the Diyarvita Parvin Public High School of the town. BSS from Noakhali reports: A businessman was killed by a Dhaka-bound bus of Jonaki Paribahan on Chowmuhani-Sonaimuri road in Sonaimuri upazila yestertday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Nur Alam, 32, a resident of Sonapur village of the upazila. Local people barricaded the road for two hours and vandalized buses of Jonaki and Janani Paribahan. Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
