Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni yesterday urged the students to always follow the path of truth in facing the challenges in life. “Truth is always hard but it won't betray us,” she said. She was addressing as the chief guest the graduation ceremony of the second batch students of Access Academy of the Asian University for Women (AUW) at Chittagong Club. State Minister for Environment and Forests Hasan Mahmud was the special guest at the ceremony. A total of 137 students from 12 Asian countries -- Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Sri Lanka and Vietnam -- graduated from the AUW Access Academy. The Access Academy is a one year-long pre-university preparatory programme that provides a critical foundation in English language studies, mathematics and quantitative reasoning and computer skills in preparation for entering the undergraduate programme of AUW. The foreign minister lauded the AUW authorities for providing the Access Academy students with different extra-curricular activities like self-defence, yoga and community services to help them prepare for the university education. Terming students from diverse cultures, religions and background in the university a 'beauty of unity', Dipu Moni told both the teachers and the students to overcome all the pains and difficulties in this regard. She hoped that after completing the under-graduation programme at the AUW, the students would play a vital role in women empowerment in the Asian region. She assured AUW of all-out cooperation from the government for its development. Hasan Mahmud in his speech urged the students to take life as a 'battlefield' and cherish dream in the mind for greater achievement. He also asked them to be helpful to the people in problem and distress. AUW Acting Vice Chancellor (VC) Kamal Ahmed and Academic Director Kathy Schneider also spoke at the ceremony.
