National leaders join condolence meeting for Moujdin
National leaders joined the people of Sunamganj to condole the premature death of Sunamganj municipality chairman Mominul Moujdin, saying people will remember him for his love for the masses and good deeds.
Moujdin was a clean man with good heart and affection for people. The nation lacks such man, they said at the massive condolence meeting held at Sunamganj stadium yesterday.
Moujdin along with his wife, younger son and car driver were killed in a road accident at Ashuganj on Dhaka-Sylhet highway on November 15. The family was returning Sunamganj from Dhaka. Moujdin's elder son is still at a clinic in Dhaka for treatment of critical injuries.
Veteran politician and former lawmaker Prasun Kanti Roy (Barun Roy) chaired the meeting organised by the Nagorik Shokshava Udjapon committee. Gano Forum chief Dr. Kamal Hossain, Maj. Gen. (retd) Azizur Rahman Bir Bikram, Awami League Presidium members Suranjit Sengupta, AMA Muhit and Dewan Farid Gazi, Workers Party chief Rashed Khan Menon, Samyabadi Dal's Dilip Barua, JSD chief Hasanul Haque Inu, cultural personality Asaduzzaman Noor, ex-MP and Moujdin's brother Dewan Shamsul Abedin, former secretary Abdul Mannan, veteran journalists Hasan Shahriar and Saleh Chowdhury, ex-MPs Fazlur Rahman, Sultan Mohammad Mansur and Moulana Shahinur Pasha Chowdhury, acting chairman of Sunamganj Pourashava Jashim Uddin Faruque, among others, spoke at the meeting.
Dr. Kamal Hossain said Moujdin was a pride of not only Sunamganj but of the whole country. He man will always remain in the hearts of people as a source of inspiration to secular forces. He earned commonman's heart through good deeds, Kamal said.
Born of the feudal family of mystic poet Hason Raja, Moujdin had extra ordinary feeling for people and launched movements like Haor Banchao and Sunamganj Banchao, which benefited the people, the speakers said. He was elected chairman of Sumanganj pourasabha for three consecutive terms.
