Develop system for uninterrupted fuel supply to power plants
Energy secretary asks BPC officials
Energy Secretary Mezbah Uddin yesterday directed to develop a system to ensure uninterrupted supply of fuel oil to different oil-run power plants.
He made the directive at a meeting with high officials of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and other organisations related with oil sector at BPC boardroom in the city.
Mezbah said a good number of oil run rental and peaking power plants are being set up in both government and private sectors in the country with governmental priority to the power sector in mind.
Such power plants, which are likely to go into operation in phases from January 2011, would need a lot of fuel, particularly furnace oil and diesel.
The meeting discussed the possible demand, means to develop storage capacity and system to supply oil to the power plants, said the secretary.
Sources in the meeting said that at present BPC lacks the storage facility for furnace oil while storage capacity for diesel has to be increased further.
Besides, the meeting also discussed the possible routes and mode of transports to ensure uninterrupted supply of oil to the power plants, they said.
Power Development Board (PDB) Chairman ASM Alamgir Kabir and other concerned high officials of PDB, BPC, Eastern Refinery Limited (ERL) and marketing companies Padma, Meghna and Jamuna, also took part in the meeting, said the sources.
After the meeting Mezbah Uddin visited ERL while he was scheduled to visit the main oil installations of Padma, Meghna and Jamuna today, they said.
