First Landing on Moon
41st anniversary celebrated
Bangladesh Astronomical Association organises an elaborate programme to celebrate 41st anniversary of man's first landing on the moon on July 20, 1969.
Noted educationist Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed formally inaugurated the two-week programme by cutting a ribbon at the Alliance Francaise de Dacca in the city yesterday.
The programme, organised in association with Alliance Francaise and Omrito Consumer Food Products, features a photography exhibition, film shows, sky observation and an Astro Olympiad.
In July 19, 1969, the spacecraft Apollo 11 and its astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Michael Collins, went into orbit around the moon.
In July 20, Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the Sea of Tranquillity and became the first human to walk on the Moon.
