Hydrographic survey ship arrives in Ctg
A modern hydrographic survey ship named "BNS Anushandhan" arrived at Chittagong from the United Kingdom yesterday, says an ISPR press release.
The ship purchased from Royal British Navy is capable of carrying out international standard survey at any place in the world.
The long awaited dedicated hydrographic survey vessel has been purchased in 2009-2010 fiscal year for Bangladesh Navy, which will internationalise the credibility of hydrographic activities of Bangladesh.
The ship was formally handed over to Bangladesh Navy from Royal British Navy at Ports Mouth Victory Jetty on 28 May.
Later, on completion of necessary preparation, Bangladeshi sailors led by commanding officer of the ship, Commander Md Nayeem Golam Muktadir started voyaging from England to Bangladesh on June 4. The ship steamed around 9,000 nautical miles during her voyage and made stopover at Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Sri Lanka.
With the addition of this modern ship in Bangladesh Navy fleet, it is expected that the ship will be able to maintain marine environment, navigability of river and sea, delimitating maritime boundary and preserving coastal area by collecting different information and statistical data.
The ship will play a significant role in research activities and extraction or exploitation of marine resources.
Commodore commanding Chittagong, naval officers and sailors welcomed the ship at Chittagong Naval Jetty on completion of her 47 days voyage.
